There is still no antiviral specific treatment for COVID-19.
Currently it is recommended to have an oxygen support treatment, liquid management and treatment with antibodies for secondary bacterial infections.1
The medicine that is being evaluated according to the above investigation about therapeutic treatment for SARS and MERS (previous coronaviruses that affected the human being). In general, there is no solid evidence that these antivirals can significantly improve clinical results.2
Antiviral medicine such as Oseltamivir, combined with empiric antibiotic treatment has also been used to treat COVID-19 patients.2
Remdesivir, developed for the Ebola virus has been used to treat imported cases of COVID-19. A brief report of the combination of Lopinavir/Ritonavir, Arbidol and Shefeng Jiedu Capsule, a traditional Chinese medicine showed clinical benefit for three out of four patients with COVID-19.2
There is an ongoing clinical essay that evaluates the safety and efficacy of lopinavir-ritonavir and interferon-a 2b in COVID-19 patients. 2
Remdesivir and other drugs such as cloroquine have shown efficacy in vitro against ,SARS-CoV-2. Taken together, these antiviral medicine can be promising options for the treatment for COVID-19 , however, it requires additional evaluation of the efficiency of antiviral drugs in clinical applications
